About the Pianoforte Tuners' Association

The Pianoforte Tuners' Association was founded in 1913 as a trade union, but was de-registered in 1972 to become a professional body.

Since then its membership has gradually grown, proclaiming its commitment to improving standards, to the extent that since 1975 all applicants for membership must pass a theoretical and practical examination to prove their ability as qualified tuners or technicians.

For many years the Association was firmly based in London, however, since 1981 an Annual Convention and General Meeting has been held in different towns throughout Great Britain, to which all classes of membership and aspiring non-members are invited so they may learn new techniques and hone their skills.

The Association has an excellent library of books, cassette and video tapes which are available for loan to Members. Full details can be found in the Association yearbook.

The Association has an international membership around the world.
